Dr. John Ward Visits board members of Hepatitis Alliance of Ghana

During his visit to Ghana, Dr. John Ward, Director of the Global Coalition for Hepatitis Elimination, paid a courtesy call to the leadership of the Hepatitis Alliance of Ghana. Dr. Ward expresses his delight because the alliance is doing so much for the hepatitis community in Ghana through advocacy, training, and other means.

He pledged the coalition's support in eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat in the country. Professor Florence Naab, an Alliance board member, expressed her excitement for the coalition's work and outlined a number of strategies that could aid in the simplification of hepatitis care and treatment in Ghana.

Dr. Richard Asamoah, the alliance's technical advisor and board member, also discussed some of the challenges associated with administering hepatitis B vaccine at birth in clinical settings.

Courtesy Call to the National AIDS Control Programme

The Executive Director of Hepatitis Alliance of Ghana pays a courtesy call on the National AIDS Control Programme's Programme Manager, Dr. Stephen Ayisi Addo, to discuss how Hepatitis Alliance of Ghana could support Ghana's triple elimination campaign. Dr. Addo was enthusiastic about this collaboration and requested that the alliance make itself available for such endeavours.

Dr. Charles Ampong Adjei outlined some of the alliance's activities and described how their efforts have been acknowledged on a global scale by the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination, which has named the alliance's executive director as the hepatitis elimination champion for 2022. In addition, he mentioned their existing partnership with the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme of the Ghana Health Service and requested a similar collaboration with the Ghana AIDS Control Programme in order to address HIV and Hepatitis co-infection issues in the country.
